Writers’ Player of the Game vs. Harwich Mariners: Eric Snow

Legatron strikes again!

The Cape Cod Baseball League should not be letting Quadzilla get hot heading into the All-Star break. Eric Snow had himself a game Friday night, making the most of the game before the two off days.

Snow got off to a hot start in his first at-bat of the contest in the second inning. After fouling off two pitches in a row to make it an 0-2 count, Snow grounded the next ball he saw through the whole in between shortstop and third base.

The single kept the inning going with two outs and moved over Jon Jon Gazdar to third in the process. Gazdar came in to score in the following at-bat which wouldn’t have happened without Snow’s base hit.

Snow wasn’t done there. Coming up with runners on the corners in the fifth inning, the Southern Florida product found another pitch to drive. A soft line drive just past the Mariners' shortstop brought home the Harbor Hawks’ fifth run off the ballgame and left Snow with an RBI single.

“I just stay with my same approach, just hit the ball hard somewhere,” Snow said. “I didn’t really hit it hard, but it snuck through.”

The plate wasn’t the only place that Snow had success either, making multiple nice plays at second base on the night. In the fourth with a runner on, a grounder came up the middle and Snow was on the case. He smoothly snagged the grounder and flipped the ball to second to begin what ended as a double play.

Snow’s best play of the night came in the eighth inning, on a ball dribbled perfectly in between first and second base. He charged the ball and speared it on a hop, before delivering a running throw over to first.

“[I’m] just staying on my toes, always expecting the ball to come to me,” Snow said. “I was pretty well prepared.”

This game was a continuation of a solid week for Snow at the plate. After his 2-4 night, he sits with a .333 average and three RBIs over the last seven days.

Heading into the All-Star break, Hyannis as a whole is getting hot. Snow has been right there with the rest of the team and will look to continue his success in the Harbor Hawks’ next game.

“[Snow’s] making some good adjustments,” head coach Eric Beattie said. “He’s getting his barrel to the zone on time, more often now. These reps that he’s gotten here have been really good for him.”
