Writers' Player of the Game vs Cotuit Kettleers: Jon Jon Gazdar

By: Ben Pope

Despite the tough loss to Cotuit Saturday, one bright spot continued to shine for the Harbor Hawks. Infielder Jon Jon Gazdar has been red hot at the plate for Hyannis, and he snags the latest Writers’ Player of the Game.

Gazdar recorded a three-hit game and a run scored in Saturday’s contest, contributing in a big way to each Harbor Hawk scoring opportunity.

“We put up a pretty good fight overall, just a couple hits away (with runners in scoring position,” Gazdar said after Hyannis’s 5-3 loss.

The crafty infielder has been a big bat for the Hawks as of late, recording a multi-hit game in each of his last four starts. Gazdar has built his season average to .344 over that stretch.

Though he’s received great help from his teammates and coaches, Gazdar credits Cam Smith with the advice that’s really fueled his resurgence at the plate.

“The biggest thing (Smith’s) told me is to keep it simple,” Gazdar said, “…breathe in the box, and not get too big.”

With just a few games remaining in the regular season, Jon Jon is looking forward to competing in his first playoff run here in Hyannis.

“I’m super excited,” Gazdar said, “From the minute I got down here, I’ve wanted that chance and to play down here as long as I possibly can. I hope the fans are getting excited!”
