Writers’ Player of the Game at Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox: Zach Ehrhard

By: Jason Boué

“He reminds me of Mitch Jebb and Rikuu [Nishida].”

That’s high praise for Zach Ehrhard from his manager Eric Beattie. Jebb and Nishida were cornerstones of the 2022 Harbor Hawks, contributing to all facets of the game. Wednesday’s Writers’ Player of the Game is becoming that guy this year.

Coming into the matchup against Y-D, Ehrhard was slashing .333/.440/.479 over his last 48 at-bats, making his early-season struggles a distant memory.

Tonight, he continued his success, going 2-4 with a run scored and the game winning RBI. He also showed off his cannon of an arm, gunning a runner down at the plate in the third to keep Hyannis in front.

“Zach can beat you in several different ways,” Beattie said. “He can hit for a little bit of power, he hits for good average, he can bunt, he can run.”

As Hyannis enters the home stretch of the regular season, Ehrhard’s wide toolbox figures to come in handy.

“I just have to remember to keep calm and stay focused,” Ehrhard said. “I’ll keep doing what I do.”
